UNIVEL BUILDS MANAGEMENT TEAM
SAN JOSE, California -- June 22, 1992 -- Univel, a joint venture of
Novell, Inc. and UNIX System Laboratories, Inc., today announced the
appointment of Arun K. Taneja as vice president of marketing. Taneja
joins three other recent additions to the management team: Jeffrey G. Wade
as vice president of finance and chief financial officer, Jerry Boomer as
director of sales, and Thomas M. Best as director of service and support.
"We believe Taneja will bring a high level of marketing expertise and
industry vision to Univel. His experience in both the open systems and
UNIX markets will be instrumental in helping us to fulfill our strategy to
bring to market the most powerful UNIX operating system in the industry,"
said Joel A. Appelbaum, president and CEO of Univel. "Taneja, Wade, Boomer
and Best, with their broad understanding of customer needs and market
demands for network computing solutions, will allow us to achieve our
business goals. In our efforts to successfully grow Univel, we are
excited to have such a prestigious team of executives join us."
Reporting directly to the president, Taneja, 43, will be responsible for
setting the marketing direction of the company. His responsibilities will
include overseeing product management, product marketing, education and
developer programs. Taneja comes to Univel from Vicom Visual Computing, a
company focused on high-end image processing, where he was acting
president and chief executive officer. Prior to Vicom, Taneja was
marketing vice president of the Distributed Systems Division at Convergent
Technologies, responsible for worldwide marketing of the distributed
systems product line of workstations and servers. Previously Taneja was
director of marketing for the Workstation Systems Group at Sun
Microsystems, Inc., where he was responsible for marketing of high-end
workstations and servers. He has also held marketing management positions
at Data General Corporation and IBM Canada Limited.
Taneja holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from
the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, a master of science in
electrical engineering and a master of business administration from the
University of New Hampshire in Durham.
Jeffrey G. Wade, 50, comes to Univel from Novell where he was director of
planning and control for International Operations. He has extensive
international experience in establishing new subsidiary operations and
bringing them to successful maturity. Wade was the primary driver in the
development and implementation of Novell╒s highly successful Japanese
strategy. Prior to joining Novell, he was group controller for Tektronix,
Inc. and was responsible for all the finance and accounting activities of
Tektronix outside the United States. This included 24 sales and service
subsidiaries, 4 manufacturing subsidiaries and 4 joint ventures. His
earlier experience includes manufacturing, human resources and
MIS/operations.
Wade holds a bachelor of science in political science from Willamette
University , a masters in political theory from Cal State in Los Angeles,
and a masters of business administration in finance from North Eastern
University.
At Univel, Jerry Boomer will be responsible for managing worldwide sales
for the company. Prior to joining Univel, Boomer was regional sales
manager for Novell, where he was responsible for managing sales and
marketing staff in a twelve state territory reflecting three Novell
offices for all the Novell products. Before working with Novell, Boomer
was vice president of sales and marketing for ASD Communications. And
prior to that he was with Wang Laboratories for 13 years where he held
several sales management and third-party marketing management positions.
Boomer holds a bachelor of science in business and advertising from the
University of Minnesota.
Thomas M. Best joins Univel as director of service and support from Sun
Microsystems, Inc. While at Univel, Best's responsibilities will include
determining and managing all service and support activities for the
company as well as establishing a network of leveraged support providers
to ensure high-quality support for Univel products throughout the world.
At Sun Microsystems, Best was business manager of Sunsoft support services
and was responsible for creating Sun's strategic partner support program
and other third-party support arrangements. Prior to Sun Microsystems,
Best held various service and support management positions at IBM.
Best holds a bachelor of science in education from Pennsylvania State
University and a master of science in management from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in New York.
